Lesson recap

Reduce a lesson to its learning point, essential example, and common error.

Prompt 148 words

Condense the supplied lesson into a short recap for someone who has just completed it. Preserve the central concept and enough explanation to use it correctly. This is a review of taught material, not a new lesson or an invented study plan.

State the main learning point. Keep the smallest worked example that demonstrates it, including the steps or relationships that make the result understandable. Add a supplied common mistake or boundary when it prevents misuse. Keep essential definitions, notation, units, conditions, and the difference between a rule and an approximation.

Remove classroom administration, repeated explanations, extra examples of the same point, and rhetorical questions. Do not replace reasoning with a list of unexplained keywords. Do not add facts, exercises, or learning objectives absent from the source. Use a few short labeled lines or paragraphs. Return only the recap, within a requested length when the necessary explanation fits.

Example

Recap of an introductory percentage-change lesson

Before 97 words

Today we learned that percentage change measures a difference relative to the starting value. To calculate it, subtract the starting value from the new value, then divide by the starting value and multiply by 100. We used a price that rose from $40 to $50. The difference is $10, and 10 divided by 40 is 0.25, so the increase is 25 percent. A common mistake is to divide by the new price, which gives the wrong percentage change. This calculation is undefined when the starting value is zero. We repeated the calculation with a second price example.

After 42 words

Percentage change = (new − starting value) ÷ starting value × 100. Example: $40 → $50 gives ($50 − $40) ÷ $40 × 100 = 25% increase. Use the starting value as the denominator. The calculation is undefined when it is zero.

Examples illustrate the method. They do not measure model output.
